Changes to waste and recycling collections

Thursday 3rd September 2026
Parish Clerk

Changes to recycling collections in the district will start on Monday 5 October 2026. From that date residents will be able to recycle a wider range of items in their green kerbside boxes.

From 5 October, these will include glass bottles and jars, plastic pots, tubs and trays, Tetra Pak (juice cartons) clean aluminium foil, metal, and plastic tubes

To accommodate these extra items as well as the materials we already collect, residents will receive a delivery of an additional green recycling box and lid alongside an information pack containing a recycling guide, collection calendar, and service information leaflet. Deliveries start from Monday 17th August and will be completed within 6 weeks.

Whilst the new service does not start until 5 October, households can use the box now to recycle plastic bottles, tins and cans.

With the exception of areas including Point Clear, Elmstead Market, Frating and Great Bentley, collection days and/or calendar weeks for both refuse, recycling and garden waste all remain unchanged and refuse collections remain fortnightly for properties serviced by a wheeled bin and weekly for those serviced by black bags. Councils for the aforementioned areas have been informed separately of changes to their recycling collections.

An interactive map is being developed that will enable residents to locate their home and click on it to receive details of collection changes. This will be available in the weeks leading up to 5 October and the council will be undertaking lots of media releases to ensure the changes are as well publicised as reasonably possible.

Garden waste collections remain unchanged for all households.

As part of this post an FAQ sheet is also provided along with copies of the leaflets that households will be receiving next week in their information pack. Residents living in flats with shared communal wheeled bins for recycling will also be able to recycle glass and other materials at the kerbside.

This information relates to Bradfield, residents may find that their near neighbours or friends/family from other areas do not have the same collection day changes as collection round boundaries do not strictly mirror village boundaries.
